04 Jun Sparks fall to Rangers
The Southern Design Sydney Uni Sparks suffered an 80-55 defeat at the hands of the Dandenong Rangers at the weekend. Despite fantastic form the previous week, the Sparks fell flat against a tough Rangers outfit.
Dandenong controlled the game from the outset and shot at an impressive clip. While the Sparks were getting plenty of shots up, they had trouble finding the target. As a result, Sydney Uni trailed 19-13 after the first quarter.
Things went from bad to worse in the second quarter for the Sparks, as they allowed the Rangers to score at will, while still struggling at the offensive end. The half time score was 46-24 in favour of the visiting side.
The Sparks picked up their defensive intensity in the second half, limiting the Rangers output, however the hill was too big for the Sparks to climb. Despite winning the last quarter, it was a disappointing outing for the Sparks who were defeated by 25 points, shooting an inaccurate 31% for the game.
Tahlia Tupaea led the Sparks in scoring with 13 points and Lara McSpadden was the only other Sydney Uni player in double figures with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
The loss sees the Sparks fall just outside the top eight and the team will look to regroup ahead of their upcoming matches against some tough opposition.
The Sparks will enjoy a mid-season break over the Queen’s Birthday weekend before taking on the third placed Kilsyth Cobras at 5pm on Saturday 16 June at Brydens Stadium.
